Who IS this Guy: Russ Fulcher?
Russ Fulcher: Challenging Butch Otter for Idaho Governor
A major story ran through Idaho’s media early this week as Idaho Congressman Raul Labrador announced his endorsement of the challenging GOP gubernatorial candidate Senator Russ Fulcher in the coming May 20th Primary.
The story ran in dozens of newspapers, blogs and other media throughout Idaho, raising questions from many who are just now hearing about him.
Who is Russ Fulcher?
On his FaceBook page, you can read it yourself: “Russ Fulcher is a Senator from Meridian and the Senate GOP Majority Caucus Chair. Russ is a graduate of BSU with a BBA & MBA in Business Administration.” In person, he is engaging because he looks right at you and listens. When he responds, his points are down-home, accurate, mostly right-on and by all appearance…straight from the heart. In that, he is passionate about his beliefs and intends to accomplish what he believes in. He comes, as I understand it, from a tech business background where he was exceptionally successful.
Why should I vote for him?
You’ll have to answer your own reasons why; but here are some strong points to consider. I’ve paraphrased Fulcher’s statements below for clarity:
- Idaho is the only Republican state to take the volunteer option on Obamacare Insurance Exchange. Taking this route was an egregious mistake that drains vital state resources in man-hours and revenue, costing jobs, inhibiting growth. This course also compromised Idaho’s legal stance to oppose Obamacare. We can stop this unreasonable output of resources by introducing an alternative, free-market, direct-pay healthcare plan that would allow Idaho citizens to make healthcare choices according to their means and personal goals.
- Idaho must join other Western states in the legal fight to regain Federally-managed land within its borders. Fully 62% of Idaho is currently under Federal management. It can’t be touched for the resources God gave us. That means we’re operating at 38% of our resource capacity and that has to change.
- Idaho must take back control of its education, empower parents and teachers to run their schools at the local level.
- With stringent Federal restrictions on our resource base, Idaho has become a service-based state, the top state in the union for minimum wage earners. We change that by regaining control of our resources so we can manage them in a sustainable manner.
“Economically, we are starving to death in a room full of food.”
What you can do about it
Regardless of your point of view, the race for Idaho Governor is hot, the spread between the incumbent Otter and the challenger Fulcher is very close.
The most important thing you can do as an Idaho citizen is look into the issues, pick your candidate and vote in the Primary on May 20th, just a week away. Make sure you register and set aside the time to fulfill your hope for Idaho’s future.
