Anoushka Shankar exemplifies her Father, Ravi at the Verbier Festival 2007

If I’ve captured the entire live performance presented through YouTube by Andy Grenko, I give you Anoushka Shankar, the daughter of Ravi Shankar who materialized into world fame in the late 60’s. Here his daughter is performing in the 2007 Verbier Festival. Thanks to YouTube, you can be there.

The daughter of Ravi Shankar, for those of us who lived in the 60's, is Anoushka Shankar. In this 2007 YouTube captured video of a live performance at the Verbier Festival, she demonstrates her genetic heritage with poise, grace and extreme talent. The first in the hour long sequence is with virtuoso violinist, Joshua Bell. But then she plays with her own in an equally incredible jazz performance. Commentary by Dwayne Parsons. YouTube presentation by Andy Granko.

Sadly Ravi Shankar died in 2012

But thankfully, he duplicated himself and some in his beautiful daughter, Anoushka.

Though the Sitar is foreign to many of us, the music is universal. The Raga rhythms touch the soul of anyone who listens and allows it to penetrate.

Here she is, Anoushka Shankar on the Sitar with her fine, fine musical group.

The Verbier Festival began in the Swiss Alps in 1994, the thoughtful creation of a then young artist’s agent Martin Engstroem. But his idea of classic sounds echoing from the Alps went round the earth. It’s still running today, having launched the careers of numerous virtuoso musicians and produced top of the world performances of the best of the world’s living performers.
