Fatal Crash on Highway 20E East of Bend in Deschutes County

October 14th, 2013 8:55 AM — Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into the cause of Sunday afternoon’s fatal commercial truck crash that occurred along Highway 20E east of Bend in Deschutes County. The victim i s identified as an 80-year old Otis, Oregon man.

According to Sergeant Keith Taylor, on October 13, 2013 at approximately 2:50 p.m., a 1998 Freightliner truck pulling two trailers driven by EDGAR HOWARD COLLVER, age 80, from Otis, was westbound on Highway 20E near milepost 21 when, for an undetermined reason, COLLVER lost control. The truck and first trailer rolled onto their top and came to rest off the highway and the second trailer came to rest blocking the westbound lane.

COLLVER was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was using safety restraints.

The trailers were loaded with recycled vehicle parts which spilled off the trailers. The truck is registered to Wurdinger Recycling Inc.

OSP troopers from the Bend Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Senior Trooper William Duran is the lead investigator.

OSP is assisted at the scene by Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Bend Fire & Rescue, Redmond Fire & Rescue, and ODOT.

The westbound lane was blocked until about 10:00 p.m.
